How It Works

Inside the TO-220 package is a bimetallic strip that reacts to heat. As the surrounding environment or mounted heatsink reaches 85 °C, the strip warps and snaps the contacts shut, completing the circuit to trigger an alarm, activate a cooling fan, or cut power. Once the temperature drops a few degrees below 85 °C, the strip resets and the circuit reopens.
